Days of rain alternating with warmer temperatures and sunshine, and we have a lush, vibrant garden where something new pops up every day. It has been wonderful to wander around here, probably more frequently than needed, and check if I can spot any new growth. Most seeds & plants are in their perfect homes for the season now, which means that the majority of hard work has been done & from now on, things get a bit more exciting.
I am in awe of my mother who has created most of this garden by herself. She gets things done fast & well. She's also had to teach me everything, so, unfortunately, I haven't been that much help. Hopefully, next year that will change.
Our garden is lined with young apple trees from one side and with a beautiful flower bed from the other. In between is everything from root vegetables to berry bushes and herbs. It's a lovely, compact garden. We would have space for lots more, but this year we just wouldn't be able to take on more garden work.
The peas are coming along nicely and it's one of my favourite parts of the garden. I find peas to be so beautiful, and of course, incredibly delicious. I simply cannot wait to taste them again.
We also have plenty of garlic, onion & chives growing, which are all our favourites and a must for each growing season.
About to burst! :')
We have lots of strawberries as well - some plants that are already a few years old + a few new plants too.
My dad's genius idea of a tiny rhubarb greenhouse has been amazing. We had a lovely early harvest. Many cakes have been made and next, some jam making is in order. There's still plenty to go around and I don't want to waste it, so any recipe ideas are welcome!
(there was an old glass window at the top but this has now been taken off as the rhubarbs are ready to be harvested)
Gooseberries, redcurrants & blackcurrants growing here too.
These tulips smell like tulips used to smell when I was still little. These were the only variety we ever had and I absolutely love having them in our current garden as well.
In addition to the things shown in the photos, we also have carrots, potatoes, green beans, radishes, horseradish, dill, parsley, oregano, mint, calendula, chamomile, borage & mullein growing here. Cucumbers, tomatoes, pumpkins & courgettes are still to be planted. I think that is it!
I am so looking forward to seeing how the garden changes throughout the growing season and I will make sure to share any exciting updates here too.
Lots of love to you,
Maria
